What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a deeply relaxing state of mind & body. There’s nothing mystical, esoteric, or frightening about hypnosis. It’s just a relaxing state. When we daydream or are just about to doze off to sleep is very similar to the hypnotic state. Mindfulness, Mind yoga and meditation are all similar to hypnosis.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is therapy using hypnosis. This may be suggestion therapy to be rid of unwanted habits, pre-exam nerves and other things that respond well to direct suggestion, or it may involve working with emotions to bring about effective change of neurotic conditions like stammering, anorexia, insomnia, phobias and excessive blushing to name but a few. Hypnotherapy allows the opportunity to reprogram the mind and promote positive change. It also affords the opportunity to lift mental blocks that may be stopping you from fulfilling your true potential.
Why use Hypnosis in therapy?
Using hypnosis is a much faster way to get positive, lasting and often spectacular change in therapeutic work. Often, one session of hypnotherapy can achieve results that would take numerous sessions of other therapies. I also believe that the longer someone is in therapy, the less likelihood of them being helped, without seeing positive change and feeling empowered early on to some degree.
How long are the sessions?
For simple suggestion therapy to treat things like smoking, weight loss, confidence boosting, habits like nail biting etc are quick sessions that never take more than one hour. For more complex problems like phobias and anything that requires working through emotion, the session is normally 60-90 minutes. I don’t limit the time for these sessions as sometimes a session is going so well that it’s best to see it through to a conclusion.
